100 Hagley Road, Bimingham
Edgbaston
Calthorpe Estates has been granted planning consent for a £12m redevelopment
of commercial premises at 100 Hagley Road, Edgbaston.
The existing premises, which are a mix of ground floor retail and upper
floor office space, will be extended from the current 30,000 sq ft to
42,000 sq ft with the expansion of the building from its current five
stories to six.
The external appearance will be updated and a contemporary look creased
with the replacement of all windows and brickwork façade. Internally,
there will be a complete refurbishment to provide open plan spaces suitable
for more flexible working.
Work will start on site this summer with some tenants remaining on site
whilst others relocate to alternative premises on the Calthorpe Estate
during the work. The redevelopment is likely to take 12 months, with the
new building scheduled for completion in summer 2009.
DTZ have been instructed as letting agents or both the office and retail
elements of the scheme.

Birmingham
Business leaders in Birmingham have welcomed the governments decision
to commit almost £400 m to rebuild New Street Station.
Ruth Kellys announcement on 13 February marks the end of the
beginning in a long campaign supported by the citys business
community said Birmingham Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCI).
Its chief executive Jerry Blackett said: We are, of course, delighted
with the government announcement of a total funding of £388m from
the government.
This provides the city with a great opportunity and the business community
as a whole looks forward to working with Birmingham City Council to turn
this exciting prospect into reality.
We now face the challenge of completing the funding through business investment
recreating the sort of public/private vision that created the NEC in Birmingham.
The announcement marks the end of the beginning for a long-awaited project.
New Street is a major strategic rail junction for the whole of the country
and we expect the scheme will create a national showpiece in the heart
of the city.
