West Bromwich
RegenCo has appointed Savills to advise on its regeneration of the High
Street and Bull Street in West Bromwich.
Savills will act as development consultant on the proposed £120m
mixed-use scheme which is known as Eastern Gateway, while Glancy Nicholls
architects have been appointed to complete the design brief.
The new development totals 4.2 ha (10 acres) and will incorporate a
residential element, revitalised retail frontages and new, highly specified
office space.
Coventry
An imaginative masterplan for the massive redevelopment of a key gateway
site is underway in Coventry. Designed by BBLB for national regeneration
specialists MDC Developments, the £110m project looks set to revitalise
the area and create a prestigious new landmark building on an arterial
route into the city.
Earlsdon Park has secured the relocation to the scheme of a major government
department from London for the phase one commercial element of the scheme
which is currently underway on site.
The scheme will comprise a mixed-use development of high quality office
accommodation, residential apartments, restaurants, and café
bars, incorporating leading edge co-friendly building technology to
reduce carbon footprint. Features will include one of the first commercial
scale ground source pump in the UK, as well as solar panelling, rainwater
harvesting systems and natural ventilation.
Built on the site of the City College, which is currently relocating,
the scheme will retain the majority of the former college buildings,
converting them into restaurants and care bars and ground floor level,
with offices above. The site also includes an existing art deco style
theatre, which will be refurbished and enhanced with the addition of
a new public piazza and performance area.
Fronting Earlsdon Park and reflecting the importance of the site as
a new city centre location, will be a striking 10-storey landmark commercial
building, which will offer approx 80,000 sq ft of modern, flexible office
space and additional restaurant and care bar facilities, with the potential
for a crèche and health club in addition, over 550 residential
apartments, varying from single bed studios to luxury penthouses, will
be created in five to 11 storey blocks forming a necklace
around a new public courtyard.
Two large multi-storey car parks will provide secure parking for residents,
office workers and visitors to the theatre.
It is envisaged that the project will take four years to complete..
