Planning

Gloucester
Feilden Clegg Bradley have been appointed by The South West of England Regional Development Agency (RDA) in conjunction with the Gloucester Heritage Urban Regeneration Company (GHURC) to prepare the first stage of a feasibility study on the redevelopment of Blackfriars, one of Gloucester’s most important and historically interesting areas.
Blackfriars is the main link between Gloucester’s historic Docks and the city centre, and incorporates the Blackfriars Priory, a scheduled ancient monument currently closed off to the public. The site has been identified by Gloucester Heritage URC as one of the ‘Magnificent Seven’ areas that are driving regeneration across the city.
The feasibility study will consider financial viability to ensure that the project can be funded and built. It will bring together an archaeological report, conservation plans for Blackfriars Priory and The Fleece Hotel and a cultural and creative industries study, all commissioned earlier this year by Gloucester Heritage URC and the South West RDA, and is due to be completed by September 2007. It is likely that the company will then be asked to prepare a detailed development brief, to be launched at MIPIM, the international property exhibition in Cannes, France in March 2008.

Clevedon
Rok Development, the commercial development arm of Rok plc, has been granted planning permission for a £30m business park near Clevedon.
North Somerset councillors backed outline plans at a recent meeting following a recommendation from officers that they be approved.
The decision paves the way for Rok Development to create in the region of 330,000 sq ft of employment uses in a range of units on a 20-acre site at Kenn Road, which is close to J20 of the M5 and opposite Kenn Business Park. The business park will be delivered in phases over the next three to five years.
Dulverton
Works get underway soon on a £1.6m scheme to boost the economy of Exmoor and West Somerset, thanks to a partnership between Somerset County Council and West Somerset Council.
Contractors are moving in to begin the construction of the Barle Enterprise Centre in Dulverton. The project will provide facilities for up to 12 small or medium sized businesses.
The Enterprise Centre is expected to be open for business by February 2008.
