The Works, Ebbw Vale
Ebbw Vale

The Works – a £300m project designed to transform and regenerate the former Ebbw Vale steelworks - entered a new stage of
development when planners officially approved the Masterplan. It has taken just five years from the closure of the steelworks to reach the planning stage – within that period the extensive buildings on the 185 acre site have been demolished, the site has been acquired by Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council and the Welsh Assembly Government, a complex reclamation programme is in progress and the Masteplan has been drawn up and approved.
Blaenau Gwent’s planning committee gave outline planning consent for: 60,413 sq m employment use, 720 new homes, a new hospital, a 14,000 sq m learning campus, 12,500 sq m mixed use development and retail up to 1,000 sq ft. The plan also proposes a theatre, leisure centre, sports pitch, primary school, wetland park education and training facilities, railway terminus and environmental resource centre.
