Prince of Wales visits
Three Welsh organisations have come together to sign a pledge
to promote rural enterprise in front of HRH The Prince of
Wales.
The Prince of Wales visited the University of Wales Lampeter
where the university joined with the Royal Institution of
Chartered Surveyors in Wales, University of Wales Trinity
St David and The Princes Foundation for the Built
Environment to sign the Memorandum of Understanding. The
document set out key areas of mutual benefit in relation
to the promotion of rural enterprise, protection of the
environment and enhancing products and services within the
region.
The agreement will address cooperation in relation to the
development and delivery of high level skills training for
sustainable land management, including rural settlements
and enterprise, sustainable rural development, transport,
environmental analysis and environmental change in land
use and human settlement in the region and will consider
the potential of developing training opportunities for surveyors
in Wales.
Christina Hirst, acting director for RICS Wales, said: The
intention of this agreement is to bring together key organisations
in Wales to form a relationship and make real commitment
in the drive to make real improvements in sustainable land
management and rural enterprise. We have mutual goals
so it makes perfect sense for us to work together to achieve
them. It was a great honour to be able to sign this Memorandum
in the presence of the Prince of Wales and it shows the
seriousness of the pledge and the commitment we have made.
Throughout his visit, the Prince of Wales also re-opened
the newly refurbished Founders Library at the University
and had the opportunity to view a selection of the Universitys
rare medieval manuscripts, including the Vulgate Bible dating
back to 1279, the three Books of Hours and the Quran.
Dr Medwin Hughes, Vice Chancellor of the University of Wales
Lampeter and Vice-Chancellor Designate of the University
of Wales Trinity Saint David said: We are delighted
to welcome His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales to the
University to open the refurbished Founders Library
and to view the many national treasures held at the University.
I am particularly pleased that the Memorandum of Understanding
will enable the University to play a major role with key
partners in addressing the many and significant issues affecting
the daily lives of individuals and communities in rural
Wales in relation to sustainability and regeneration. As
we take forward the creation of the University of Wales
Trinity Saint David we are mindful of our remit to transform
educational and training provision within the region whilst
also safeguarding its rich history and heritage for generations
to come.
