Cowbridge
Alder King have reached an agreement with Waitrose to become
the anchor tenant for a new retail development scheme in
Cowbridge Town Centre.
The development will be situated on the 2.6 acre site of
the former Garden Centre site, located on Birds Lane, off
the High Street.
Alder King are acting on behalf of site owner RS Bird Ltd
to co-ordinate and submit a planning application for the
scheme which will include a new 22,000 sq ft food store,
approximately 8,000 sq ft of complementary shopping units
together with associated car parking for more than 140 cars.
Subject to the feedback received during the public consultation
event planned for early December, it aims to submit a planning
application by the end of the year. If this is successful,
the aim is to complete the project by Easter 2012. The development
will be constructed by RS Bird with Alder King acting as
project managers.
Charles Russell-Smith, partner at Alder King said: We
are delighted to have secured an Agreement for Lease with
such a high profile and respected retail operator. RS Bird
is a family owned company based in Cowbridge and is fully
committed to designing a scheme that will suit the nature
of Cowbridge and benefit the town. This is a sensitive site
and the current scheme has evolved having regard to detailed
site assessment, which has included an archaeological dig
that located a remnant part of the old town wall.
RS Bird are therefore liaising closely with the Vale of
Glamorgan Council and undertaking pre application consultation
with local interest groups and the public to gain feedback
on their plans.
