Silver Surveyor InterviewBy: Richenda Oldham

Tim Davies, Colliers International

Tim Davies joined Colliers International (previously Colliers CRE) in July 2005 following the merger with niche Bristol based surveying practice Lipfriend Dawson, where Tim was Head of the Industrial Agency, Development and Investment.
Tim took over as head of Colliers International’s Bristol office in January 2011. He has more than 25 years experience of dealing in industrial, logistics and warehouse property, providing strategic advice to corporate clients on lettings, sales and acquisitions.

What do you enjoy most about your current job?
The sheer variety of projects. In a difficult market my job is a real challenge, which means I am not  confined to the office all the time. I spend an average of one day a week in London and have an opportunity to do business with international colleagues.
What motivated you to go into commercial property?
My first job after university was with an estate agency in Wotton-under-Edge trying to raise some money to get married. The job worked out, the marriage didn’t.
What is the best advice you have ever been given?
Never B******* a B**********
Who has been the greatest influence on your life and why?
My greatest influence has always been my family. I was also inspired by a friend who left school with no qualifications and joined the army at a very young age, having tampered with his birth certificate. He remains the youngest person to be promoted to a Corporal. He subsequently left the army and went into business where he became equally successful. He has a unique ability to simplify and solve the most complex issues.
If you could have dinner with any three people, who would you choose and why?
Wales rugby coach Warren Gatland, as I am Welsh and passionate about rugby.
My best friend Hobbsie – also Welsh and with similar passions.
Liz Hurley – The other two are hardly lookers and I’m sure she has some tales to tell!
What is the best decision you have ever made?
To go into business with Chris Dawson and Stephen Lipfriend back in the early 90s in the Bristol commercial property sector.
What is the most embarrassing situation you have ever been in?
Too many to mention, but while officiating at the Pontypridd V Cardiff rugby match last season I heard the announcer asking for the driver of a car parked outside the ground to go and move it as it was blocking the ambulance. Yes it was my car.
And to make matters worse the game was being televised.
What has been the most exciting moment in your life?
The birth of my first child in 1997
What is on your list of things to do before you die?
Shoot two birdies in a row on the golf course.
What would you say has been your greatest achievement?
Shooting one birdie in a row!
