Work has started on the construction of a new 140-bedroom ibis hotel in Queens Road, Brighton, close to the central railway station. The development is being undertaken by Hodge Investments (Brighton) Ltd and funded by Julian Hodge Bank.
The ten-storey hotel will transform the quarter-acre site, which was once used as a casino and has lain derelict for a number of years. All existing buildings will be demolished. When complete in the summer of 2013, the value of the finished scheme is expected to be around £11.5 million.
The hotel will be operated by Accor, the world’s leading hotel operator with 4,400 hotels in 90 countries, including 900 that trade under the ibis mid-market brand.
Austin Kennedy of Julian Hodge Bank said: “This is a very important site in the centre of Brighton, which had previously been something of an eyesore.
“During the next 12 to 15 months, it will be transformed into an attractive building that will bring much-needed employment and hotel accommodation to the heart of the city centre.
“This has been a complex project and has taken some years to put together but all the effort has been worthwhile and the Bank is delighted to be involved in this exciting scheme.”
