South West licensed property agent Bettesworths has been busy finding buyers for two well known West Country pubs - The Old Quay House Inn at Griggs Quay, Hayle, near St Ives in Cornwall and the Piddle Inn in Piddletrenthide, near Dorchester in Dorset
The Old Quay House, which has nine bedrooms and stands in 1.2 acres at the head of Hayle's tidal estuary was put on the market last summer for £695,000 and, according to Bettesworths, it generated a great deal of interest, before being sold (for an undisclosed sum) to new owners locals Trevor and Margaret Richards, who also own a hotel on the Isles of Scilly.
Turnover for The Old Quay House had dropped dramatically over the past few years and by summer 2011, the receivers were called in and the pub closed. Matt Bettesworth, who handled the sale, is confident that under the new ownership, the inn will soon be back on the map again and as popular as ever.
The Piddle Inn, which has an annual turnover averaging around £370,000, has been sold to Italian Mario Scarpa and his family. It was on the market for £525,000.
