Cornish heritage museum complete with working mill and house for sale28th September 2012

In Zennor, on the beautiful West Cornwall coast, a local Cornish heritage museum, featuring a collection of ancient granite milling stones, which the British Museum has described as "enviable" is on the market. The Wayside Museum comes as a complete business pack that includes a working mill, gift shop and Grade II listed four-bedroom cottage, offering a potential lifestyle business for someone prepared to offer the asking price of around £975,000.

Founded in 1937 by a keen amateur archaeologist, Colonel Frederick Hirst, the Wayside Museum contains a treasure trove of over 5,000 artefacts, dating from 3000BC to the mid 20th Century. Items on display include a rare pilchard barrow, Zennor school desks, a pit pony harness from Levant and a fishwife's sandals.

Part of the museum's many displays is Trewey Mill, a water-powered, granite built grist mill with 16th Century origins, but which was rebuilt in the late 18th Century. The mill was in operation until 1860 and has now been full restored by the current owners who use it to mill flour, which is sold locally.

The main income is generated from admission fees to the museum as well as by the mill's gift shop, which also provides refreshments.

The Wayside Museum is being sold by Beardsley Theobalds in Exeter. Tel: 01392 253071.
