Grains of rice and a living wall mark the launch of Two Snowhill in Birmingham18th April 2013

For sheer pzazz, the launch on 12 April of Birmingham's Two Snowhill - the biggest office development to be built outside London since the start of the credit crunch - takes some beating.

Europe's largest living wall and an unusual art installation by theatre group Stan's Cafe, consisting of 23 tonnes of rice, were commissioned to mark the opening of the 310,000 sq ft, 14-storey building. Both these will be accessible by the public for free until Sunday 21 April.

Jointly developed by Hines and Ballymore, Two Snowhill comprises 7,000 sq ft of ground floor retail space and 303,000 sq ft of Grade A office space - a rare commodity in the current market - and is one of only two buildings with more than 200,000 sq ft of space.

Stan’s Cafe’s art exhibition "Of All The People In All The World", which tells the story of the world’s population, is on the sixth floor of the building (which means a ride in one of the buildings scenic glazed lifts) and is open from 11am – 7pm Mon-Fri; 11am – 6pm Sat/Sun).

The 7m high living wall includes 604 sq m of planting, special effects lighting and runs the length of the 220m Snowhill estate.
