Housing minister to speak at Wales first national Landlord Open Day15th May 2013

Landlords from across Wales will have the chance to make their voices heard on Monday 20 May at the Welsh Landlord Open Day 2013 at City Hall in Cardiff. This free event, which is being run by The Residential Landlords Association, is open to all landlords and agents operating in the residential housing sector in Wales.

It is Wales’ first national Landlord Open Day and coincides on the day of the launch of the Renting Homes (Wales) White Paper, one of many changes to housing legislation unique to Wales.

Speaking at the Open Day is Housing Minister Carl Sargeant and Commercial Director of the Principality Building Society Peter Hughes.

Also speaking at the event is RLA Director for Wales Douglas Haig. Commenting on the event, Mr Haig said

“This is a fantastic opportunity for politicians, landlords and suppliers to come together, discuss and learn. Being a landlord can often be a lonely thing and it is good to learn from the experience of others. The irony is that a lot of people who are landlords don’t consider themselves one because they only have one extra property but they are affected by the changes in legislation.”

Key issues to be discussed on the day include the well publicised Welfare Reform, the Green Deal as well as housing shortage in Wales.

“So much is happening that is having an impact on the Private Rented Sector across the UK and for the first time unique laws are being introduced that only impact landlords that have properties in Wales. We have some of the country’s experts in their field speaking and we honoured to have the new Housing Minister speak at our event.”

There will be a range of practical workshops and informative suppliers useful for landlords and agents.

The RLA Welsh Landlord Open Day will run from 3pm until 8pm and is free to attend, although pre-registration is essential. To register your attendance, please visit http://www.cardiffhousing.co.uk.
