Cambridge Satchel Company takes lease on Leicester factory17th July 2013

Thanks to business expansion due to continued demand for its highly coveted bags, The Cambridge Satchel Company has taken the lease on a 30,000 sq ft factory in Fosse Way, Syston, Leicester in a deal secured by commercial property agents Innes England on behalf of the factory landlord, Pukka Pies.

The Cambridge Satchel Company is moving its workforce from a site in Wigston and plans to employ 40 new staff at its new factory over the next six months.

The property, which is four times larger than the company’s previous site, comprises two single storey detached steel frame buildings, with the larger building incorporating two-storey offices. There are extensive service yard and car parking facilities. The site will allow the company to increase its production threefold.

Peter Hotchin, director at Innes England’s Leicester office, who acted on behalf of the landlord, said: “From its humble beginnings in Cambridge, The Cambridge Satchel Company is a brand that is taking the world by storm. It is pleasing to see the business being able to grow into its next premises in the city.

“The new premises provide high quality factory and office accommodation along with a strategic location, which allows space for continued growth, ease of access and good parking facilities for employees. It is ideally suited to The Cambridge Satchel Company’s current needs and plans for the future.

“Leicester has a rich history in the manufacture of textiles and craft and I’m pleased to see this remains thanks to businesses which continue to work from the area and support that heritage.

The factory is situated on the east side of Fosse Way on the outskirts of Syston, close to the A46 Leicester to Newark road and Leicester bypass which links directly to Junction 21a of the M1.
