Blueprint, the developer of Leicester’s Phoenix Square, has commissioned a team of professional street artists to create a new spray-painted mural in the Cultural Quarter.
The work, on hoardings near the digital arts complex, is designed to complement existing street art in area while adding something new into the mix.
A team of graffiti artists from Leicester Headquarters, the midlands-based public art collective, worked day and night to complete the work.
Designer and artist Bryan Mulholland said: “I jumped at the chance to get involved with this project. Leicestershire has a lot of creative talent, and hubs like Phoenix Square are very important to help develop and encourage the next generation.”
Leicester Headquarters artist Fidget GFT said: “Street Art is something I have been involved in all over the country and I’ve never had bad feedback. ”
Ashley Walters, of Blueprint, said: “It is fantastic to see our second graffiti art project at Phoenix Square completed. The previous works have been exciting additions to the city streetscape, and I’m sure these new works will be seen positively too. We believe it’s important to nurture the creativity of established and emerging urban artists, and to find new ways to get people looking at public art.”
“The St George’s neighbourhood is full of culture with character, soul and architectural heritage. Phoenix Square is an up-and-coming destination for the creative community and we wanted to see that creativity spill out onto the streets.”
