Women in Property launches Schools Ecohome Competition 2013

The South West branch of Women in Property (WiP) has launched its Schools Ecohome Competition for 2013, supported by Crest Nicholson.

The competition invites students from Year Nine to think about a four-bedroom house design, which is sustainable and suited to modern lifestyles. The competition aims to raise awareness of sustainability, as well as inform students about the construction process and the range of property and construction careers that are available to young people starting to consider their future career options and studying choices.

The project will be based around a plot at Paintworks in Bristol’s creative district, involving the regeneration of 12 acres of industrial buildings along the banks of the River Avon by developers Crest Nicholson.

Five schools in the region have stepped up to the challenge: Hardenhuish School in Chippenham, Backwell School, Colston Girls School, St Mary Redcliffe and Temple and Churchill Academy.

Judging will take place in October 2013. The panel of judges, selected from the property and construction industry, include; Ashley Nicholson from Verve Properties, Hilary Vaughan from Peter Evans Partnership; Richenda Oldham from Property News, Robert Delius from Stride Treglown architects and WiP South West University Student Award Winner, Charlotte Collins.

The winning entry will win iTune cards, sponsored by local property companies.

WiP Chairman of the South West branch, Naomi Chesterman of Veale Wasbrough Vizards, said: “We are always keen to promote property and construction careers to young people. We had such an excellent response from the students last year, who came up with some exciting and innovative ideas, that we are delighted to run the competition again”.
