Commercial property consultants Jones Lang LaSalle in Southampton has raised almost £200 for the Samaritans charity, through a sale of the firm's unwanted office furniture.
The furniture sale came about as a the result of JLL's Latimer House office, which has recently undergone an extensive refurbishment programme. After ten years of occupancy, the office required a makeover, which included redecoration, new carpets and new office chairs.
Steve Knight, who is Jones Lang LaSalle’s Charity Champion in the Southampton office, decided to sell the unwanted furniture through Gumtree and EBay to raise funds for the JLL charity partner Samaritans, a UK and Ireland charity that offers round-the-clock support to people struggling to cope.
Stephen Knight said: “At a time where people are constantly looking for ways to save money I thought the second hand office furniture might appeal to local companies. Only moments after listing the furniture online we had interest from a new internet café and several start-up businesses. I’m glad our unwanted furniture raised money for a very worthy cause.”
