Developers working on the unique Oakhill Brewery homes development in Somerset have praised the Government’s Homes and Communities initiative as a major factor in getting the ambitious scheme off the ground.
Work is now underway converting the former Somerset brewery into a highly contemporary complex of 25 homes thanks to investment from the HCA’s Get Britain Building programme – which was set up to ensure stalled or mothballed sites were completed.
Oakhill Brewery Developments Ltd sales manager David Baker said the scheme had enabled the ambitious conversion project to deliver much needed new homes for Somerset.
“Small to medium schemes like the development at Oakhill are exactly the sort of projects the HCA is intended for. Coupled with the Government’s equally successful Help to Buy campaign, the additional investment is making all the difference in bringing forward new homes for the community.”
In addition to helping provide the financial leverage to get stalled schemes moving again, the Homes & Communities Agency uses its investment and housing regeneration skills to help meet the needs of local communities.
Oakhill Brewery is a highly contemporary complex of 25 homes ranging from a four/five bedroom luxury restored Malthouse to bespoke penthouses and designer apartments.
The development offers a range of one, two and three bedded apartments and duplexes, along with larger family homes - and most come with a separate study offering the opportunity for new owners to work from home.
Constructed using some of the original stone from buildings previously on the site, the new homes incorporate the highest standards of insulation and energy efficiency, achieving a Level 4 rating in the Code for Sustainable Homes.
The developers are committed to retaining the character and charm of the original building and restore the brewery to its former position as the focus of the community.
The first phase including a luxury light and airy penthouse and three two-bedroom designer apartments is expected to be completed in the Spring of 2014. Apartment prices start from £160,000.
