New tenants for Derby help boost city centre's retail offering7th February 2014

Greenswood Menswear returns to Derby city centre after 20-year absenceCommercial property consultancy Innes England has been responsible for giving Derby's city centre a bit of a boost by securing two new retail tenants: Greenwoods Menswear and City Hair and Beauty.

Greenwoods Menswear has returned to Derby's city centre after a 20 year absence. The retailer, which celebrated its 150th anniversary last year and has 88 stores across the country including branches in Alfreton and Burton, has taken 38-40 St Peter’s Street on a ten year lease, while City Hair and Beauty has secured a unit in the popular Cathedral Quarter at 26 Cornmarket.

The two lettings were handled by Ben Taylor, Head of Retail Agency at Innes England, who said: “We are seeing a resurgence of enquiries and activity for units outside the Westfield.

“The lettings to Greenwoods and City Hair and Beauty demonstrate the demand for St Peters Street and Cornmarket, two areas benefitting from good footfall and a diverse offering of multiple and independent retail.

“Since the arrival of Westfield, clearly the city has gone through a phase of readjustment, but the hard work by stakeholders such as Marketing Derby, Derby City Council and the retailers has helped to maintain interest and visitors.

“Together with our Derby office, we have a number of key instructions and are currently agreeing deals with multiple and good regional independents in other areas including Crown Walk, Cornmarket and The Spot.

“The retail offer outside the Westfield is improving year on year, evidenced by the number of deals, which will result in an even better shopping experience. These new business openings will also create new jobs which is important to the local economy.”
