Leicestershire County Council scores hole in one with new golf professional tenant25th June 2014

Leicestershire County Council scores hole in one with new golf professional tenantLeicestershire County Council (LCC) has acquired golf professional Richard Hughes as its new tenant on the former Snibston Golf Driving Range - previously the site of the Snibston Colliery - on Chiswell Drive in Coalville.

The lease was arranged by commercial property agents Mather Jamie who acted on behalf of the Council.

Richard Hughes has opened the refurbished golf driving range as a golf centre, complete with a club house with lounge area, golf driving range, nine-hole pitch and putt course and 18 driving bays set in 17.6 acres.

Alex Reid at Mather Jamie said: “Despite the need for investment and being an unusual site, we received a lot of interest from golf professionals wanting to establish their own premises.

“The site had been unoccupied for some time and was in need of work, so the LCC were very keen to see it turned around and for the facility to remain a driving range.

“We acted quickly to market the property in order to secure a new occupier and received such strong interest that we had to put the tenancy to best bids.

“We’re delighted to see how Richard has transformed the site and are confident it will bring great benefits to the local community.”

Richard Hughes, of The Golf Centre, said: “I’ve been coaching full-time for eight years and have always been interested in going it alone, I have just been waiting for the right opportunity to do so.

“I’m from the local area and actually started here myself as a junior, so it really made sense to take up the premises.

“While the facilities were somewhat rundown when I arrived, it has provided me with an opportunity to completely renovate the site to fit my needs and deliver the high quality facilities the area needs, which is something I can continue to do in the future.

“I will now be offering golf coaching, a golf driving range that is open to the public and a junior academy course, as well as a coffee lounge.”
