New owners for Shrubbery Hotel in Ilminster21st July 2014

New owners for Shrubbery Hotel in IlminsterThe Shrubbery Hotel, a popular landmark building in Ilminster, has been sold to new Somerset-based owners who plan to improve the hotel, which is also used as a wedding venue and conference centre.

The 21-bedroom hotel, which has been in administration since February 2013, has been saved from closure by Shrubbery Hotel (2013) Ltd, which was set up to restore the hotel's fortunes.

Experienced hotelier Kevin Newton, who is heading up the new team in charge of the Shrubbery, said: “The plan is to bring the hotel up to contemporary expectations, improving the public areas, meeting rooms and the bedrooms.

“The Shrubbery needs to meet the needs of the modern discerning customer. It is an important venue for the town where people can meet, socialise, get married and celebrate the landmark events of their lives.
“We are open for business and people can now book weddings, conferences, meetings and parties with confidence now the spectre of administration has been removed. A thorough review of the hotel facilities is underway and we will then be carrying out improvements over time while keeping the hotel open for the community.”

Under the Best Western banner, the Shrubbery has a three-star rating and will continue to be marketed under that brand.
