This year, the event is scheduled for March 6, 2026, and is expected to see around 15,000 runners take part in the 13.1-mile (21.1 km) race.

Breaking Development

Among the participants is Chloe Hodgkisson, who is running the marathon after suffering a stroke in 2024. Hodgkisson underwent emergency surgery to remove a blood clot from her brain and has since made significant strides in her recovery. “I just couldn’t believe it; I had to walk again,” she shared, reflecting on her journey. She aims to raise funds for the Stroke Association charity through her participation.

Rob Foreman, another participant, is set to run the marathon in full firefighter kit for charity. He has been running the event for eight years and acknowledges the physical challenges ahead. “This challenge is definitely going to be one of the hardest I’ve done physically, so it’s going to be a case of being mentally strong and resilient,” Foreman stated.

The race will start and finish on Victoria Avenue, next to the event’s village on Midsummer Common, with the first wave of competitors beginning at 09:30 GMT. Participants are encouraged to arrive at least 45 minutes before the race starts. The course is known for being flat, providing a good chance for personal best times.

In preparation for the marathon, Hodgkisson completed a 60-mile Run/Walk for Stroke challenge, demonstrating her commitment to recovery and fundraising efforts. She expressed her desire to turn her experience into a positive one, stating, “I want to turn it into a positive and say ‘this is an awful thing that’s happened, but I have got better.'”

The event will also impact local traffic, as 36 roads in and around the city will be closed for the marathon. This is a common practice for large running events to ensure the safety of participants and spectators.

As the date approaches, excitement builds within the community, with many looking forward to supporting the runners and celebrating their achievements. Observers expect the event to not only highlight personal stories of resilience but also foster a sense of community spirit among participants and spectators alike.
