George North announces retirement from rugby at age 34

George North, one of Wales’ greatest wingers, has announced his retirement from professional rugby at the end of the season, just after turning 34 earlier this month.

North leaves behind an impressive legacy, having earned 121 caps and scored 47 tries for the Wales national team. He played a pivotal role in helping Wales secure four Six Nations titles and two Grand Slams during his international career.

He reflected on his journey, stating, “For me, it’s the right time. I have been able to live out my childhood dream for many seasons, playing with some of the best players, coaches and staff behind the scenes.” North also toured with the British and Irish Lions in both 2013 and 2017, where he played three Tests and scored two tries.

North began his professional career with Scarlets before joining Northampton Saints in 2013. During his time with Northampton, he won the Premiership—a highlight that showcases his talent on the field. After five years at Ospreys, he made a move to French side Provence.
