In a heartfelt update, actress Sarah Parish continues to inspire many through her charity work with The Murray Parish Trust. Founded in memory of her late daughter, Ella-Jayne, who tragically passed away at just eight months old, the trust has raised over £5 million for Southampton Children’s Hospital.
Sarah, now 57, and her husband, actor James Murray, have dedicated their lives to ensuring that no parent has to endure the same heartache they faced when Ella-Jayne lost her battle with congenital heart failure in January 2009. Ella-Jayne was born with a rare genetic disorder called Rubinstein-Taybi Syndrome, which profoundly impacted their family.
Reflecting on their journey, Sarah shared, “I’d been very lucky in life. Jim and I were rolling along, having a lovely time. Moved out to the country to start a family. Ticked every box, as they say. And then suddenly something puts a spanner in the works and it’s quite unbelievable.” Her words resonate deeply, highlighting the unexpected turns life can take.
Since the establishment of the trust five years after their loss, Sarah and James have worked tirelessly to support seriously ill children across the UK, aiming to reach every child by 2035. The trust’s objectives include providing drama classes, yoga and music workshops, and creating comforting spaces in pediatric units for parents facing devastating news about their child’s health.
Sarah’s commitment to this cause has not gone unnoticed; both she and James received MBEs for their charitable efforts, a testament to their dedication and impact. Their other daughter, Nell, now 16, has also been a source of strength for the couple.
As Sarah continues her acting career, with notable appearances in shows like Peak Practice and Broadchurch, she remains a beacon of hope and resilience. She is also a guest on the show Love Your Weekend with Alan Titchmarsh, where she shares her story and passion for helping others.
In her own words, Sarah reflects, “But in hindsight, everything happens for a reason and it’s often those terrible, terrible things that lead you in the direction that you were always supposed to go.” This perspective has fueled her mission to create a positive change in the lives of families facing similar challenges.
As the community rallies around The Murray Parish Trust, the legacy of Ella-Jayne continues to shine brightly, reminding us all of the power of love and resilience in the face of adversity.
