<p>The goal of returning to the lunar surface was announced by President Donald Trump in his first term. Now, NASA is making strides towards that ambitious objective with the Artemis II rocket, which has returned to the launch pad for the second time.</p>
<p>The rocket&#8217;s journey to the launch pad began on January 17, but a problem with its helium system caused delays. Fortunately, engineers have successfully addressed the helium issue, and the Artemis II launch is now anticipated to take place in early April.</p>
<p>The launch window opens on April 1, 2026, and the mission is set to last approximately 10 days. This historic flight will include three U.S. astronauts and one Canadian, marking a significant moment in international collaboration in space exploration.</p>
<p>As preparations ramp up, the Artemis II astronaut crew has entered quarantine in Houston to ensure their health and safety ahead of liftoff. The Artemis II stack, weighing an impressive 5,000 tonnes, has undergone extensive checks and repairs.</p>
<p>Engineers will spend several days verifying that the repairs carried out in the Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) have worked as intended. NASA detected the helium flow issue early on and made the prudent decision to roll the Artemis II stack back into the VAB for further investigation.</p>
<p>With the recent progress, the agency is now hopeful that the first crewed flyby in more than half a century will get off the ground in early April. Observers are eagerly awaiting this milestone in human spaceflight, which aims to pave the way for future lunar exploration.</p>
