Daring senior staff from two Nottingham companies are taking on an ambitious charity challenge driving the three peaks route…in a car worth no more than £500.
Don Peel and John Tansur from Fraser Brown Solicitors are teaming up with Marc Ballard from Salloway Property Consultants to take part in the ‘Scally Rally’ between 29 June and 2 July. They will drive the route, using only minor roads and avoiding motorways to get as close to Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon as possible across four days.
The aim of the rally is to raise money for Rutland House School, based in Sneinton Dale. Rutland House is a registered charity, which provides support for children with Down’s syndrome, cerebral palsy and other motor development disorders.
To take on the challenge, the team has bought a 1996 Fiat Coupe and is working with local businesses to get it roadworthy.
Marc Ballard, director of Salloway Property Consultants, said: “I jumped at the chance to be involved. It is for a very worthwhile cause - the staff at Rutland House are brilliant and they do amazing work to help children progress with their life skills. The route will be challenging, but it will be a bit of fun too.
Marc said he was confident the team can be successful. “We’ll complete the challenge, even if we have to push the car around.”
Don Peel, a partner at Fraser Brown, said: “As a firm, we try to embark on a different charity challenge each year. Knowing that every penny we raise is going to such a good cause is really spurring us on to get the car looking good and to raise as much as possible.”
Rutland House offers structured sessions to help children to gain confidence, key skills and achieve their full potential. In addition, it provides practical support to parents and families to equip them with the confidence and knowledge they need to deal with their child’s needs. To continue to provide these services, the charity relies entirely on voluntary donations.
Over the coming months, the rally car will be covered in logos from Rutland House, Fraser Brown and Salloway, as well as other local companies, which come forward to show their support.
