Bristol Property Agents Association fundraising results30th April 2012

The Bristol Property Agents Association has presented cheques to two leading charities following 12 months of intensive fundraising activities, from boules competitions to quiz nights.
 
Outgoing president Jayne Rixon, pictured left, a partner with city commercial property experts Burston Cook, chose the Help 4 Heroes charity, which will receive £4,500 and Sarcoma UK, which will receive a cheque for £3,500.
 
The association’s first female president in 65 years said it had been a challenging but hugely enjoyable year.
 
Jayne Rixon said: “These charities are very close to my heart and I am delighted the BPAA has been able to make such a positive contribution to their funds.”
 
“I chose Sarcoma UK in tribute to Euan Cresswell, one of our property industry clients who was diagnosed with the rare sarcoma cancer in 2010 and sadly died months later at the age of 50.”
 
Jayne chose the Help 4 Heroes charity after hearing first-hand about the plight of wounded British Service personnel from husband Mark, who retired from the Army in 2007. 
 
She said: “The nature of the recent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan has resulted in a steady stream of young people with life-changing injuries and with which the existing medical services were ill-prepared to cope.  
 
“H4H makes grants that provide direct, practical help to the wounded which makes you realise just what a vital role Help 4 Heroes plays in supporting our troops.”
 
The BPAA raised the money through a series of events including boules, golf and tennis tournaments, a quiz night as well as the annual dinner. The special guest speaker, former Royal Marine officer turned TV personality Monty Hall made a significant contribution to the funds raised.
  
Jayne Rixon has now passed on the presidency to well known Bristol estate agent Doug Woods and returns to her role as partner with city commercial property specialists Burston Cook - as the market shows the first signs of a modest recovery.
 
“We have seen a lot of businesses hanging on in there for the past couple of years but I believe quite a number of firms do feel quite optimistc and against the odds need to expand organically. It is a good time to acquire premises and the office market is showing definite signs of increased activity particularly in the city centre.”
