DTZ get physical for charity6th June 2012

Ten volunteers from the Birmingham office of real estate adviser, DTZ swapped their suits for sports uniforms to take part in Give and Gain Day, the UK’s only national day of employee volunteering.

They joined 26 teams of other volunteers for the Fit for Fun initiative, held at Tipton Sports Academy in Sandwell. The theme of the volunteering day was to encourage children from 22 local primary schools to get involved in sport, healthy eating and fitness.

DTZ’s team organised a series of ball games to encourage team work and friendly competition, followed by an obstacle assault course requiring problem solving skills.

Team leader, Matt Long of DTZ said: “The day was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. It was extremely rewarding to work with children from a range of backgrounds and skill sets and we hope they go away with the message that fitness can be fun.”

Run by Business in the Community (BITC), Give and Gain Day provides organisations with an opportunity to make a difference to the communities they operate in.

David Darlaston, Regional Director of BITC West Midlands said: “Give and Gain Day is a chance for companies to show that they are really committed to their communities. This year we wanted to tap into the buzz around the Olympics and encouraged our volunteers to adopt the sports and healthy eating focus and they came up with an exciting mix of events that pupils really enjoyed.”

Other activities held on the day included dodgeball, a healthy eating game, dental health and tag rugby.
