Acheson's Olympic village in Dorset sweeps the board at UK Housing Design Awards7th August 2012

The 2012 UK Housing Design Awards (HDA) was dominated by a Dorset firm, Acheson Construction Ltd, whose residential development on Portland is currently housing the competitors and team officials, competing in the sailing events for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games.

Acheson's Olympic village site won four awards, including: UK Housing Project of the Year Award, Supreme Award for the best overall scheme, Best Affordable Housing Award and Interior Design Award. The Dorchester based firm, together with the developers ZeroC Holdings (also from Dorchester) and architects HTA (from London) were presented with the awards at a dinner held at The Grosvenor House Hotel, London.

"Acheson worked closely with ZeroC Holdings and HTA to achieve this success and the result was a magnificent team effort," said Marcus Drysdale, Managing Director of Acheson Construction.

The development, which consists of 77 residential units and associated external works, has been built on the former Officer’s Playing Field at Osprey Quay, Portland.

The site will be handed back to the developers after the Games and the houses will be placed on the open market in September at affordable prices and will be referred to as The Officer’s Field Development. Magna Homes will be allocated 19 properties, which are to be used as social housing. All the residential units are low carbon with the heating and hot water generated from biomass heating systems and many of the houses are fitted with rain water harvesting.

Drysdale said: “Our commitment to quality is of paramount importance and we deliver on time and on budget. We work towards understanding our client’s needs and then achieving them without compromise.”
