Planning submitted for Wigan's Grand Arcade22nd October 2012

Scarborough Development Group, the property development and investment group, has submitted a planning application for its 0.7 acre Millgate site in Wigan. Included in the proposal is an 80 bed hotel, 15,500 sq ft of retail space, a restaurant unit and a 20-space car park.

The development will form the final phase of the Grand Arcade scheme located off Millgate and River Way, adjacent to the Wigan Council offices and recently completed Wigan Life Centre. Scarborough anticipate being on site in the second quarter of 2013 with completion expected end 2014.

William McAlister, Associate Director of Scarborough Development Group said: “Having worked closely with the Council in planning the final phase of the Grand Arcade development, we believe that once complete, it will revitalise the town centre and provide a major boost for residents and visitors.”

Deputy leader of Wigan Council David Molyneux said: “Although these are early stages in the process, it is certainly a positive gain that developers are interested in Wigan and the town centre.

“Any development would compliment all the good work that has gone on there including the Life Centre and the Grand Arcade.

“We would certainly welcome the development in that area of town. There have been applications made in the past of course, but this time we believe that the developers are serious about building something there, which would be nice.”
