Junior Chamber International (JCI), an organisation dedicated to helping young professionals across the UK get the most out of their careers, has re-launched its Birmingham branch, after an eight year absence.
The relaunch is being backed by a number of firms, including real estate company Cushman & Wakefield and BPP Professional Education.
The team behind the re-launch is Colin Lawrence-Waterhouse, of Cushman & Wakefield, Kay Purser of Warwick University and Kirstie Barnett of Carillion, who is the branch president.
Already, the team have held an inaugural event, at BPP Professional Education’s city centre offices, which was attended by a number of key figures from the JCI network in the UK, including national president Emma Eastwood.
Also appearing, as guest speaker, was Georgie Moseley, mother of tragic cancer victim Harry Moseley, who died aged 11, after suffering an inoperable brain tumour.
Harry, although young, was an inspirational figure who spent the last two years of his life raising awareness of brain cancer, and also funds to help in the fight against this dreadful disease.
His mother has carried on her son’s work through the Help Harry Help Others charity, which formed the basis of her speech at the JCI event.
Having successfully re-launched the branch, JCI Birmingham is poised to unveil a programme of events for the next year, which will include networking and social events, and also personal development training sessions.
Colin Lawrence-Waterhouse, JCI social director, said: “Birmingham Junior Chamber International offers young professionals a unique chance to develop themselves and their community, whilst making friends at the same time.
“The launch night was a chance to show Birmingham what they can expect from their chamber in the future, and we enjoyed a fantastic membership growth on the night.”
Scott Rutherford, head of Cushman & Wakefield’s Birmingham office, said: “As a company we are fully behind any organisation which is aiming to help young professionals in their career development. We wish the new organisation every success.”
