CJH Land sells former station yard premises near Yeovil7th November 2013

The former station yard in Sparkford near Yeovil – with planning permission for 14 houses – has been Former station near Yeovil sold by land sale specialists CJH Land

Brookvale Homes has bought the triangular 1.5 acre site bounded by the Sparkford Road, the High Street and the railway line.

CJH Land director Matthew Hiles said the deal underlined the increasing strength of the housing market. “We began marketing this site back in 2010 realising we might struggle to attract a buyer. But the market is in a far better state and people are now looking at more difficult sites. Some of the sites, which had been stuck for several years are now beginning to move.

“Owners have to be realistic about prices but they are certainly better than could have been achieved three or four years ago.”

The site is on the northern edge of Sparkford and includes a small wooded area, as well as the former station yard. It has planning permission for the demolition of existing buildings and construction of 14 new homes with associated parking, garages and access.

“Sparkford has good local facilities and close connections to Yeovil and the main line railway. The development will provide much needed housing and also end the uncertainty over the site,” said Matthew Hiles.

Matthew Hiles said: “The past two years have been very busy despite the downturn as we have been involved in a number of significant land sales across the West.

“All of the major house builders and developers we work with are seeking new land opportunities in this part of the country and the outlook is considerably brighter than it has been.”
