According to Colliers International Automotive and Roadside specialist Will Jolly, demand for quality showroom outlets across the West has greatly increased due to the numbers of cars rolling off UK production lines.
The latest hotspot is at Matford Green near Exeter where Volkswagen has already taken a lease on a modern 35,000 sq ft facility.
Will Jolly said: “We have also agreed terms for another motor dealer to take a two-acre plot adjoining the VW site, subject to planning permission.”
The latest figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders have revealed that UK car production hit 1.3 million cars in the first 11 months of 2013 - a 5 per cent increase on the previous year – the highest since 2007.
“With production rates back to pre-recession levels the knock-on effect is being felt across the sector. A number of operators are looking to expand, especially in quality locations such as Matford Green, which already has the largest concentration of dealerships in the south west and looks set to grow as a major regional destination over the new few years.”
