Liverpool transfer target Akliouche confirms stance on potential summer move

Monaco midfielder discusses future amid transfer speculation

Monaco midfielder Maghnes Akliouche has addressed speculation surrounding his future, indicating that a transfer could be his next career step after the current World Cup. The 24-year-old, who is currently with the France squad, has been linked with clubs including Liverpool, Manchester United, Juventus, and Paris Saint-Germain.

In an interview, Akliouche stated, “Will the next step be a transfer this summer? Yes, but frankly, I’m really focused on this World Cup.” He added, “I know anything can happen, even during the competition. It’s a great opportunity for exposure, but I’m staying focused on the national team’s objectives.” Akliouche also expressed a desire not to disrespect his current club by discussing the transfer window during the tournament.

Akliouche’s comments suggest a potential move could be on the horizon once his commitments with the national team conclude. His focus remains firmly on the World Cup, highlighting the importance of the tournament for his career and for the French national team’s ambitions.

Liverpool’s managerial change and transfer focus

Liverpool recently announced Andoni Iraola as their new manager, succeeding Arne Slot. Iraola, who previously guided Bournemouth to a sixth-place finish and Europa League qualification, has signed a two-year contract with the club. His appointment signals a new era for Liverpool, with attention now turning to strengthening the squad for the upcoming Premier League season.

The summer transfer window is approaching, and Liverpool are reportedly considering various potential new signings. While the club has been relatively quiet on the transfer front recently, the focus is expected to shift to player acquisitions now that the managerial situation has been resolved. Akliouche is among the players tentatively linked with a move to Anfield.

Beyond Akliouche, reports also suggest that Galatasaray are preparing an offer for Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk. According to journalist Yagız Sabuncuoglu, the Turkish Super Lig club is contemplating a bid for the Netherlands international. The report indicates that Galatasaray might make their move for Van Dijk after June 15.

Akliouche’s rise and international ambitions

Akliouche has emerged as a significant talent at Monaco over the past two years. He is the only Ligue 1 player not from PSG, apart from goalkeepers, to be called up by manager Didier Deschamps for the World Cup. His performances for Monaco, where he scored nine goals and provided nine assists in all competitions, earned him a place in the 26-man squad.

Despite Monaco’s seventh-place finish in Ligue 1, which means they will compete in the Conference League next season, Akliouche’s individual form has been notable. He has previously featured for France, making his debut in a 2-0 win against Ukraine last September and scoring in a 3-1 victory against Azerbaijan in November. He also started in a 3-1 preparatory match win against Colombia in March.

Akliouche expressed his excitement about the World Cup call-up, stating, “It’s a great adventure with Thierry Henry as coach, but the World Cup is something magical, for me and my family.” He added, “The goal is to go as far as possible. We know that the French dream of a third star, just like us. We want to bring the cup back to France.”

The midfielder also shared insights into his playing style, describing himself as a technically skilled player who creates chances through dribbling, passing, and shooting. He mentioned being inspired by players like Zidane, Özil for his passing quality, and Iniesta for his vision. Akliouche emphasized the importance of mental anticipation in the game, noting that these players saw things before others and created opportunities without relying solely on physicality.

Akliouche also revealed that his friend Khephren Thuram had jokingly asked him to join him at Juventus. He also received advice from Paul Pogba, who encouraged him to be himself and express himself without stress, expressing happiness for Akliouche’s World Cup participation. Akliouche hopes Pogba returns to his usual levels soon.

The midfielder acknowledged interest from PSG and stated that testing oneself in the Champions League is fundamental for a player. He confirmed that he would make a decision on his future after the World Cup.

Other transfer movements and managerial changes

Beyond Liverpool’s activities, Manchester United has also been active in the transfer market. They have reportedly agreed a deal to sign Brazil midfielder Ederson and are in talks for Newcastle’s Lewis Hall and West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes. These movements highlight a busy period for clubs as they prepare for the new season.

At Monaco, the club’s seventh-place finish in Ligue 1 could lead to managerial changes. Former West Brom defender Sebastien Pocognoli might be replaced by Atletico Madrid icon Filipe Luis. However, Monaco could face fines for every game Luis manages if he does not possess the required UEFA Pro Licence.

Akliouche’s focus remains on the World Cup, where he hopes to contribute to France’s campaign alongside elite talents such as Kylian Mbappe, Michael Olise, and Ousmane Dembele. The tournament provides a significant platform for players like Akliouche to showcase their abilities on a global stage, with his future club decision pending after the competition concludes.
