Cannon Brewery Development Unveiled: A New Era for Sheffield

What Happened

Capital&Centric has unveiled its vision for the residential-led development of the iconic Cannon Brewery site in Sheffield. The developer plans to deliver a blend of 252 design-led apartments in the first phase of approximately 500 homes at the former brewery, which closed in 1999.

Why It Matters

The development will not only provide housing but also feature co-working spaces, a residents’ lounge, a new urban park, and areas for independent cafes and bars. The historic brew house will be preserved and transformed into office space, with food and beverage options on the ground floor. The iconic water tower will be restored and serve as a central feature of the urban park. Tom Wilmot, joint managing director of Capital&Centric, emphasized the importance of creating a community atmosphere, stating, “We’re not building somewhere people sleep and leave… you’ve got a neighbourhood Neepsend can be proud of.”

What’s Next

Capital&Centric is collaborating with the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority and Sheffield City Council to advance the regeneration project, which has received £11.67 million from the combined authority’s brownfield housing fund. The plans aim to breathe new life into the Cannon Brewery site, transforming it into a vibrant community hub.
