Grant Greening-Steer, an engineer from New Milton, Hampshire, is embroiled in a contentious £5 million compensation claim following a serious motorbike accident in June 2019. He alleges that the crash left him with debilitating injuries, including a fractured spine and a traumatic brain injury. However, recent developments suggest that his claims may not be entirely accurate.
The High Court has seen surveillance footage reportedly showing Greening-Steer walking normally—contradicting his assertions that he requires a mobility scooter for daily tasks. His defense argues that the true value of his claim should only be around £112,022, far less than the amount he seeks.
During the proceedings, medical experts have raised concerns about Greening-Steer’s honesty. Charles Woodhouse KC stated, “His dishonesty has been present from the start of and throughout his claim.” This sentiment was echoed by another medical expert who noted, “Conscious exaggeration is clearly depicted … I am strongly of the view that he is malingering to enhance the value of his claim.” Such statements have added weight to the defense’s case.
Greening-Steer contends that he struggles with manual dexterity and cannot walk more than 100 meters without exhaustion. Yet, surveillance footage appears to tell a different story. He claims to be unable to walk with a normal gait, stating, “I can’t walk with a normal gait; it’s physically impossible.” This contradiction raises questions about the authenticity of his reported disabilities.
His total damages claim includes over £1.8 million for lifetime care and assistance, alongside other expenses such as £160,655 for hiring someone to walk his dog and £116,176 for holidays he claims he can no longer enjoy. The trial continues as both sides prepare for further arguments.
If found fundamentally dishonest in his claims, Greening-Steer risks receiving nothing from this high-stakes lawsuit. The trial’s outcome could set important precedents regarding personal injury claims and the scrutiny they face in court.
