Kyle Walker Retires from International Football
“I am sad to be making this decision, but I’m also very proud of what I’ve achieved with England,” said Kyle Walker as he announced his retirement from international football.
Walker, who made 96 appearances for the England national team, played a significant role in five major tournaments, including the FIFA World Cup and UEFA EURO events. His final match for England was a friendly against Senegal in June 2025.
Having made his senior debut against Spain in November 2011, Walker’s international career spanned over a decade. He was part of the England squad that reached the finals of UEFA EURO 2021 and UEFA EURO 2024, showcasing his consistent performance on the international stage.
“To represent your country once, let alone 96 times, I’m extremely proud of that,” Walker added, reflecting on his journey. He scored his only international goal against Ukraine in September 2023, further cementing his legacy.
Walker began his England career in 2009 with the MU19s and progressed to the senior team, where he quickly established himself as a key player. He was named player of the match in his first start against Sweden in 2011, highlighting his immediate impact.
Throughout his career, Walker played for several clubs, including Sheffield United, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City, and Burnley. He served as vice-captain of the England team during the UEFA EURO 2024, demonstrating his leadership qualities.
“The book is now closed and it’s been a whirlwind of a journey, but one that I’ve really, really enjoyed,” Walker stated, summarizing his experience with the national team.
Thomas Tuchel, who has coached Walker, praised him, saying, “I know all England fans will join me in congratulating Kyle on an incredible international career.” This sentiment reflects the admiration Walker garnered throughout his time with the national team.
As Walker steps away from international duties at the age of 35, the football community acknowledges his contributions and the memories he created on the pitch.
