The 2026 Belfast City Marathon is set to introduce an exciting new format with a team relay featuring five distinct legs, each varying in distance. Scheduled for May 3, this year marks the marathon’s 44th occurrence, promising to attract thousands of participants eager to take on the challenge.
The team relay will consist of the following legs:
- Leg 1: From Stormont Estate to Montgomery Road, covering 4.2 miles.
- Leg 2: From Montgomery Road to Boucher Road, spanning 6.8 miles.
- Leg 3: From Boucher Road to Falls Road, measuring 4.5 miles.
- Leg 4: From Falls Road to Duncairn Gardens, totaling 5 miles.
- Leg 5: From Duncairn Gardens to Ormeau Park, concluding at 5.7 miles.
This new structure not only diversifies the race but also encourages teamwork among participants. Many local running clubs are already gearing up for the event, excited about this unique opportunity.
To facilitate logistics on race day, a shuttle bus service will operate from Annadale Embankment to various relay changeover points between 8:00am and 10:00am. Additionally, parking will be available for free at the Stormont Complex, making it easier for families and friends to come out and support their runners.
Discounted parking options at Q-Park and APCOA car parks will also be accessible for participants. All transport services related to the marathon will be free for both spectators and runners—except for rail services—ensuring that everyone can enjoy the festivities without hassle.
As anticipation builds for this year’s marathon, officials expect a vibrant atmosphere throughout Belfast on race day. With early morning train services set to run from Derry, Larne, Bangor, and Newry into Belfast, many are looking forward to participating in this community-centered event.
