Event Overview
The Cambridge Half Marathon is set to take place this Sunday, with about 15,000 runners expected to participate in the 13.1-mile (21.1km) race. The event is known for its flat course, providing a great opportunity for participants to achieve personal best times.
The race will start and finish on Victoria Avenue, adjacent to the event’s village located on Midsummer Common. Runners are advised to arrive at least 45 minutes before the race begins, with the first wave of runners scheduled to set off at 09:30 GMT.
Road Closures
In preparation for the event, 36 roads in and around Cambridge will be closed. Some road closures will begin as early as 04:00, with the last road expected to reopen by 19:00.
Participants’ Stories
Among the participants is Chloe Hodgkisson, who is running to raise funds for the Stroke Association charity after suffering a stroke in 2024. Chloe underwent emergency surgery to remove a blood clot from her brain following her stroke. She expressed her determination, stating, “I just couldn’t believe it; I had to walk again,” and highlighted the emotional challenges she faced, saying, “For a long time, I felt helpless; I couldn’t be the mum I was before.”
Chloe has also completed a 60-mile Run/Walk for Stroke challenge ahead of the marathon, demonstrating her resilience and commitment to raising awareness for those facing similar challenges.
Charity Efforts
Another notable participant, Rob Foreman, will be running the marathon in full firefighter kit to support the Magpas Air Ambulance charity. He acknowledged the physical difficulty of the challenge, stating, “This challenge is definitely going to be one of the hardest I’ve done physically, so it’s going to be a case of being mentally strong and resilient.”
Current State
As the event approaches, preparations are in full swing, with organizers ensuring that facilities such as toilets will be available at each drink station along the route and within the event village.
