Happy international women’s day

International Women’s Day is a global celebration of women’s achievements and a call for gender equality. It is observed annually on March 8, with the upcoming 2026 event focusing on the theme ‘Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls’. Despite the significance of this day, it is important to note that no target under Sustainable Development Goal 5 has been fully achieved, highlighting the ongoing struggles for gender equality.

Current Developments

This year, the Commonwealth countries have shown their commitment to gender equality by supporting the Belém Gender Action Plan at COP30. The Commonwealth Secretary-General emphasized the connection between climate and gender, stating, “Climate justice is gender justice.” This statement underscores the disproportionate impact of climate change on women, particularly in Small Island Developing States.

In addition to global initiatives, local celebrations are also taking place. The European Judo Union has announced its theme for International Women’s Day as ‘Give To Gain’, wishing everyone a happy day through their media channels. Meanwhile, York City FC is taking steps to celebrate the role of women and girls in their football community, declaring, “Happy International Women’s Day.” They are set to host a dedicated #HerGameToo fixture on March 28, further promoting women’s participation in sports.
