Heston Blumenthal Announces Closure

“There are some huge feelings there; sadness. It’s bittersweet, but it has run its natural course,” said renowned chef Heston Blumenthal regarding the impending closure of his acclaimed restaurant, Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, set to take place in January 2027 after 16 years of operation.

Opened in 2011 at the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park in London, Dinner by Heston Blumenthal quickly became one of the most talked-about menus in the city. The restaurant is celebrated for its historic British cuisine, featuring a signature eight-course tasting menu called ‘A Journey Through History’ priced at £195 per head.

Under Blumenthal’s direction, the restaurant earned its first Michelin star in 2012, followed by a second star in 2014, solidifying its reputation as a culinary destination.

Despite the success of Dinner, Blumenthal acknowledged the challenges faced by the restaurant industry today, stating, “In these times most restaurants are suffering in one way or another.” This sentiment reflects the broader struggles many establishments have encountered in recent years.

While Dinner by Heston Blumenthal will close, Blumenthal will continue to run his flagship restaurant, the three-Michelin-star Fat Duck in Bray, Berkshire, which remains a cornerstone of his culinary empire.

The decision to close Dinner comes after a period of personal challenges for Blumenthal, who was sectioned in November 2023 and diagnosed with a condition requiring medication. This has undoubtedly influenced his perspective on the future of his establishments.

As the culinary world prepares for this transition, the legacy of Dinner by Heston Blumenthal will undoubtedly be remembered for its innovative approach to traditional British dishes and its impact on London’s dining scene.

Details remain unconfirmed regarding any potential future projects or ventures for Blumenthal following the closure of Dinner.
