M6 Traffic Disruptions
“We would encourage motorists to find alternative travel routes if they can do so,” stated a spokesperson for the police regarding the ongoing traffic issues on the M6 motorway.
As of March 7, 2026, the M6 is closed northbound between junction 28 (Charnock Richard) and junction 30 (Bamber Bridge) due to a police incident. Additionally, another closure is affecting the northbound lanes between junction 21 and 21a near Warrington, also due to police activity.
In the southbound direction, traffic has been held following a crash reported at 6:35 AM between junction 12 for Gailey and junction 13 for Stafford South. All traffic is temporarily halted in this area, causing further complications for motorists.
The police have indicated that the incident on the northbound M6 is expected to clear by 11 AM, with an earlier estimate suggesting a resolution by approximately 8:30 AM. However, as of now, the situation remains fluid.
Despite the ongoing accidents, traffic is reportedly coping well on the southbound side, although the closures are causing significant delays.
Another police spokesperson commented, “This closure will cause some disruption but it is absolutely necessary, and we are working as quickly as we can to get the carriageway fully re-open.” This highlights the urgency and importance of addressing the incidents effectively.
The M6 has experienced multiple closures due to police incidents on the same day, raising concerns about road safety and traffic management in the area.
Motorists are advised to remain vigilant and consider alternative routes while the situation develops. Details remain unconfirmed regarding the specific nature of the police incidents that led to these closures.
