Funding Announcement
Monmouthshire is set to receive a significant financial boost, with £1.25 million in capital funding and £532,000 in revenue funding allocated for the 2026/27 fiscal year. This funding aims to strengthen the local economy and create pathways to employment.
Immediate Circumstances
The investment is part of a broader initiative by the Welsh Government, which has committed to a total of £547 million through the Local Growth Fund across Wales from 2026 to 2029. Monmouthshire County Council is at the forefront of this development, focusing on revitalizing the local economy.
The Local Growth Fund was announced by the Welsh Government in October 2025, marking a significant step towards supporting local communities. The council’s plan includes the establishment of the Monmouthshire Skills Centre, which will serve as a modern training hub equipped with industry-standard facilities.
Additionally, GrowthSpace aims to unlock the potential of vacant or underutilized sites for new businesses and jobs, promoting inclusive economic growth through targeted initiatives. Dedicated programs will provide employability support, training, and pathways into education or employment.
Cllr Paul Griffiths commented on the funding, stating, “This funding is about investing in the local economy and equipping people with the tools, skills, and spaces they need to thrive.” He further emphasized the importance of the initiative, saying, “From revitalising buildings to supporting local businesses and assisting residents in accessing training and opportunities, we are laying the groundwork for sustainable growth that benefits our local economy now and in the future.”
As Monmouthshire prepares to implement these plans, the community is hopeful for the positive impact this funding will bring to local development and employment opportunities.
