Barry Keoghan has officially stepped into the role of Duke Shelby in Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, a film that has generated significant buzz among fans. This long-awaited role was secured by Keoghan after he sent a heartfelt Father’s Day text to Cillian Murphy, who plays the iconic Tommy Shelby.

In his own words, Keoghan recounted, “I text him and said, ‘Happy Father’s Day’ and he got back and was like, ‘Do you want to play my son in the Peaky Blinders movie?’” This moment marked a significant milestone for Keoghan, who has been trying to land a role in the series for years.

Keoghan’s connection to his character runs deep, as he relates to the story of having an absent father. He expressed, “It was such an emotional piece, being a dad myself and then having a father who was absent, I can entirely relate to that.” This personal connection adds a layer of authenticity to his portrayal.

In addition to his role in Peaky Blinders, Keoghan has been recognized for his performance in The Banshees of Inisherin, earning a Best Supporting Actor nomination in 2023. He has also been moved by the performances of his co-stars, particularly Jessie Buckley in Hamnet, stating, “I couldn’t stop crying watching that movie… it was absolutely touching and gorgeous.”

As for Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, it is currently showing in selected cinemas and is set to be available on Netflix starting March 20. Keoghan has described his co-stars as like brothers during filming, emphasizing the camaraderie on set.

To add a youthful flair to his character, Keoghan incorporated gemstones into his costume, aiming to embody the essence of trying to be like Tommy Shelby. He remarked, “I wanted to look like I was trying to be Tommy Shelby.” This attention to detail reflects his commitment to the role.

As audiences await the film’s wider release, the excitement surrounding Keoghan’s performance continues to grow. Details remain unconfirmed regarding any future projects he may be involved in, but his trajectory in the film industry remains promising.
