Chiltern Railways Faces Major Disruption
Chiltern Railways will experience significant disruption as no services will run into or out of London Marylebone during essential engineering work scheduled for March 14-15, 2026. This closure comes on the heels of a tragic incident at Northolt Park station on March 9, where a person died, leading to the closure of all lines between London Marylebone and Princes Risborough.
The engineering work aims to improve reliability and provide smoother services for years to come. It includes replacing old rail sleepers with new concrete ones, updating track and ballast, and performing maintenance on track switches and crossings approaching London Marylebone.
Rail replacement buses will operate between Bicester North and Bicester Village, and between Gerrards Cross and Hillingdon to mitigate the impact of the service disruption. However, the complete halt of services to London Marylebone for an entire weekend is expected to significantly inconvenience customers, as noted by Michael Stewart.
Following the incident at Northolt Park, severe delays of up to 120 minutes were reported across the line, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by Chiltern Railways. Neil Gaskin emphasized that these upgrades are vital to ensuring trains run reliably and on time.
As the engineering work approaches, passengers are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and seek alternative travel options. The work is crucial for maintaining the safety and efficiency of the rail network.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding any further developments or additional service adjustments that may arise from the ongoing situation. The impact of these changes will be closely monitored by both Chiltern Railways and Network Rail.
