Gemma Kingsley, a 50-year-old resident of Beadnell, Northumberland, has been sentenced to seven years in prison for a series of fraudulent activities that defrauded victims of approximately £180,000.
Kingsley specifically targeted recent divorcees, manipulating them into believing she was due to inherit millions, a tactic she used to fund her lavish lifestyle. One victim tragically lost over £125,000 due to her deceitful schemes.
Using stolen or false card details, Kingsley booked luxury hotels and even opened a betting account in one victim’s name, leading to substantial financial losses. Her fraudulent activities extended beyond the UK; she was previously convicted in France for a €94,000 bill at an alpine resort, equivalent to around £81,000.
During her trial at Swindon Crown Court, Kingsley pleaded guilty to six counts of theft and four counts of fraud. The judge described her as a “financial predator,” highlighting the calculated and persistent nature of her offenses.
Victims recounted the emotional and financial devastation caused by Kingsley. One victim expressed, “She deceived me mentally, emotionally and financially,” reflecting the deep impact of her actions.
Andrew Eddy from the Crown Prosecution Service stated, “Gemma Kingsley’s offending was calculated, persistent and financially and emotionally devastating for the men she targeted.” This sentiment underscores the serious ramifications of her manipulative behavior.
Kingsley’s defense attorney, Michael Gomulka, noted that she had recently come out of a difficult relationship and struggled with mental health issues, providing some context to her actions.
