Jack Colback announces retirement
Jack Colback has officially announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 36. The former midfielder concluded a career that included 480 professional club appearances, showcasing his talent across several prominent teams in England.
Colback made a significant impact during his time at Sunderland, where he made 135 appearances and was part of the squad that reached the Carabao Cup final in the 2013-14 season. His move to Newcastle United in 2014 marked a pivotal moment in his career, where he made 102 appearances and contributed to the team winning the Championship title in the 2016-17 season.
In a heartfelt statement, Colback reflected on his journey, saying, “Today, I’m announcing my retirement from professional football. I feel privileged to have the honour of playing nearly 500 matches at the top level, representing some of the biggest clubs in the country in Newcastle, Sunderland, Nottingham Forest, Ipswich and Queen’s Park Rangers.”
Colback’s career also included a notable stint at Nottingham Forest, where he initially joined on loan before making a permanent transfer in 2020. Most recently, he played for Queens Park Rangers, making 53 appearances for the club.
Throughout his career, Colback made 189 appearances in the Premier League, scoring 9 goals and providing 11 assists. He also had a brief international career, being capped once by England’s under-20s in 2009 and receiving a call-up to the senior squad in August 2014, although he withdrew due to injury.
Colback expressed gratitude for the experiences he gained, stating, “There have been highs, lows, promotions, tough defeats, and moments I’ll never forget.
