Liverpool lead race for Bradley Barcola as PSG seek record fee

Liverpool are reportedly prioritising a deal for Bradley Barcola, with the winger giving preference to a move to Anfield if an agreement can be reached with Paris Saint-Germain. The French club has set a substantial asking price for the player, who is expected to depart this summer.

Barcola has reportedly decided against signing a new contract with PSG, making an exit likely in the coming months. This development has put clubs like Liverpool and Arsenal on alert, as PSG aims to maximise their profit from a potential transfer.

PSG’s Valuation and Player’s Preference

Fabrizio Romano has indicated that Liverpool has been at the forefront of the pursuit for Barcola since April and is actively working on a deal. Barcola is said to be open to the move and prioritises the Liverpool project, provided a transfer can be finalised with PSG. The Reds are currently awaiting indications from PSG regarding the price and other details.

According to reports, PSG values Barcola at €170m. This valuation is influenced by factors such as Barcola being a back-to-back Champions League winner, his strong performance in the World Cup, and his age of 23. Multiple clubs have made enquiries for the player, and PSG is prepared to sell him.

Luis Enrique, PSG‘s coach, has reportedly stated that he only wants players committed to the club and will not guarantee a starting spot to anyone. This stance, coupled with Barcola’s decision not to renew his contract, suggests that an exit has always been a possibility.

Nasser Al-Khelaifi, along with Luis Campos, is expected to be directly involved in any discussions regarding Barcola’s departure. The club’s project is built on retaining players who wish to stay, reinforcing the likelihood of Barcola’s transfer if a new deal is not agreed upon.

Liverpool’s Search for a Winger

Liverpool is looking to strengthen their winger options following the acquisition of Spain international Victor Munoz from Osasuna. This move is part of their strategy to replace Egypt star Mohamed Salah.

In March, Liverpool announced that Salah would be permitted to leave Anfield during the summer transfer window to pursue new opportunities. While some reports suggest Salah is close to joining Turkish side Besiktas, Liverpool has faced challenges in securing his replacement.

Initially, RB Leipzig‘s Yan Diomande was considered the primary target for Liverpool this summer. However, interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid has reportedly ended Liverpool‘s pursuit of Diomande. The focus has now shifted to Barcola as a potential incoming player.

The situation with Barcola appears to be progressing, with recent reports from France indicating his intention not to extend his contract in Paris. This development has intensified Liverpool‘s efforts to secure the winger, positioning them as leaders in the race for his signature.

PSG‘s asking price of £140 million for Barcola, as reported by one source, highlights the significant financial commitment required for his transfer. Liverpool will aim to negotiate this price down to facilitate a deal for the highly-rated attacker.

The transfer window continues, and Liverpool remains engaged in discussions to bring Barcola to Anfield, contingent on reaching an agreement with PSG on the transfer fee.
