The Postcode Lottery operates by awarding £1,000 daily to residents on 20 lucky streets across the UK, with players contributing £12 a month to enter the draw. Since its inception in 2005, the People’s Postcode Lottery has raised over £950 million for good causes, making a significant impact on communities nationwide.

In addition to the daily prizes, the lottery also features a weekly draw on Thursdays, where players in 1,000 postcodes can win £10 each. This structure not only rewards players but also supports charitable initiatives, with one-third of ticket sales donated to various causes.

This grant covers 83 percent of the project costs, with the council contributing £495,949, showcasing the positive ripple effect of lottery funding on local communities.

Furthermore, an additional £2.2 million of National Lottery funding has been allocated to support community, arts, and sports activities across Scotland. This funding is made possible through contributions from the National Lottery Community Fund, SportScotland, and Creative Scotland, highlighting the ongoing commitment to enhancing community engagement.

As the excitement of the lottery win spreads, local leaders are expressing their gratitude. Councillor Ann Woodward remarked, “Hertford Town Council and its partners have been listening to the views of our community to shape the plans for the grounds of Hertford Castle – the much-loved greenspace in the very heart of our wonderful town.”
