Ryanair’s New Cabin Bag Allowance
In 2025, Ryanair expanded its cabin bag allowance in accordance with new EU regulations. This change allows passengers to take a larger personal bag, now measuring up to 40cm x 30cm x 20cm, which represents a 20% increase in dimensions.
The updated policy stipulates that the personal bag must weigh under 10kg and fit beneath the seat in front of the passenger. Tom Schott, a travel expert, commented, “The new dimension is a game-changer, but only if you use it wisely,” emphasizing the importance of packing efficiently.
Schott further noted, “A well-packed bag is a compliant bag,” highlighting the need for passengers to adhere to the new guidelines to avoid complications during their travels.
Updated Pregnancy Travel Rules
In addition to the changes in cabin bag policies, Ryanair has also revised its rules regarding pregnant passengers. Travelers must present a ‘fit to fly’ letter after reaching 28 weeks of pregnancy. Furthermore, travel is not permitted beyond the end of the 36th week for single pregnancies.
For those expecting twins or triplets, a ‘fit to fly’ letter is required between 28-32 weeks. These regulations align closely with similar policies from other airlines, such as Jet2, which states, “We are not able to carry expectant mothers after: the end of the 35th week of pregnancy in the case of a single pregnancy; or – the end of the 33rd week of pregnancy in the case of multiple pregnancies.”
Passengers are advised to consult their doctors if they have any doubts about their suitability to fly or if they have experienced complications during their pregnancy.
Legal Challenges and Future Implications
Currently, Ryanair is also challenging the European Commission’s approval of German state aid for Condor, which could have implications for competition within the airline industry. This legal action underscores Ryanair’s proactive approach to maintaining its market position amid evolving regulations and competitive pressures.
As these developments unfold, the airline industry continues to adapt to both regulatory changes and passenger needs, making it essential for travelers to stay informed about the latest policies that may affect their journeys.
