What Happened
Maleace Asamoah, the son of Derek Asamoah, has joined Shamrock Rovers on loan from Wigan Athletic for the remainder of the Irish season. The 23-year-old forward, who has been with Wigan since the summer of 2024, is seeking more first-team action after making 26 appearances and scoring two goals this season.
Why It Matters
This move marks Asamoah’s second stint in Ireland, having previously played on loan at Waterford while under contract with Fleetwood Town. Shamrock Rovers head coach Stephen Bradley expressed his excitement about the signing, noting that the club had been monitoring Asamoah since his time at Waterford. Bradley stated, “We tried to get him a number of times since then, but it just didn’t quite happen. So Maleace is one we’ve monitored quite closely since this time in Waterford. I’m delighted to get him.”
What’s Next
Asamoah will now look to make an impact at Shamrock Rovers as they continue their campaign in the SSE Airtricity Premier Division. The team recently drew 1-1 against Dundalk, with Asamoah’s addition expected to bolster their attacking options moving forward.
